Caleb NDIKU

Caleb Ndiku Wins The 2012 New Balance Grand Prix over 3 000m, Boston, February 5th, 2012.

HONOURS:

– 2009 World Youth Runner-up over 1500m
– 2010 World Junior XC Champion
– 2010 World Junior Champion over 1 500m
– 2011 All-Africa Games Champion over 1 500m

BIO:

World Youth runner-up over 1 500m in 2009, World Junior cross country Champion in Bydgoszcz (Poland) in march 2010 and World Junior Champion over 1 500m in Moncton (Canada) 4 months later, the native from Machakos Caleb Ndiku was awarded the Most Promising Kenyan Sportsman of the Year 2010, following the steps of Brimin Kipruto, Samuel Wanjiru and Asbel Kiprop among others.

Meanwhile he signed for the Japanese company Nissin Shokuhin, running two 1500m races alone in 3:38.71 and 3:39.53 before moving up to 5 000m in during the fall.

Injured at the end of 2010 after a winter spent in Japan, Caleb could not prepare well his 2011 cross country season. That way, for his first year competing as a senior, he ended 47th at the National XC Championship in february. Therefore, it is at home, disappointed and deceived, that he followed the World Championship in Punta Umbria.

40 days later, in Sardinia, the young kenyan could have regrets, finishing second at the very competitive Alasport Cross Country – – only 3 seconds behind the World XC Champion Imane Merga and ahead of his countryman and World XC runner-up Paul Tanui.

He then went back to Kenya and made his Pro-debut in Doha (Qatar), finishing in 4th with a +4 seconds Personnal Best, improving again 3 weeks later at the Fanny Blankers-Koen Games in Hengelo, blitzing a 3:32.02 for third.

Finishing 6th at the National Championship, he could not manage to make the national team for the World Championship in Daegu but qualify for the All-Africa Games instead. As a result, on september 15th 2011, he became the 7th Kenyan to win the title over 1 500m, succeeding to Asbel Kiprop.

If all goes well, the tall and powerful Ndiku – the only runner in a 10 children family – will confirm his new status and fulfill his huge potential this year; looking to the next step:  to be a Champion.

Caleb Ndiku after winning thé World Junior Champion title over 1500m, on July 22nd 2010 in Moncton (Canada).
